Uttar Pradesh: Farmers demand hike in sugarcane purchase price

Mandi Dhanaura (Amroha), Uttar Pradesh: The Bhartiya Kisan Union (Tikait faction) had demanded the government to hike the sugarcane purchase price to Rs 600 per quintal, reports Live Hindustan.

A monthly meeting of the organisation was held on Wednesday at the block complex, where key issues affecting farmers were discussed. State Vice-President Chaudhary Ranveer Singh urged the government to set the sugarcane support price at ₹600 per quintal. He also voiced strong concerns over the frequent power cuts in rural areas.

During the meeting, other members raised concerns about irregularities in the share determination process in land records at the tehsil level. Despite multiple complaints, they noted, no action has been taken, leaving farmers with no choice but to repeatedly visit the tehsil in frustration. The farmers also demanded that the land consolidation process in Azampur Gram Panchayat be conducted fairly and called for the immediate payment of overdue sugarcane dues from sugar mill.

SDM Chandrakanta, who attended the meeting to engage with the union representatives, assured them that their concerns would be addressed promptly.
