Uttar Pradesh: Farmers demand reopening of Baitalpur sugar mill

Deoria, Uttar Pradesh: A delegation of farmers led by Brajendra Mani Tripathi, president of the Chini Mill Chalao Sangharsh Samiti, submitted a memorandum to the district administration demanding the removal of administrative and legal hurdles to reopen the Baitalpur Sugar Mill, reported Live Hindustan.

The memorandum stated that the previous government had declared the Baitalpur Sugar Mill sick and sold it. However, the agreement between the government and the buyer stipulated that the mill would be developed and operated. Despite this, the mill remains non-operational.

Farmers in the district have been protesting since 2017, demanding the reopening of the mill.

The farmers had staged a 160-day sit-in at the collector’s office to demand the reopening of the mill. In their latest appeal, they requested the administration to remove all administrative and legal obstacles.
