Uttar Pradesh: Fire broke out in sugar mill

Bijnor: A massive fire broke out in the bagasse at Uttam Sugar Mill in Barkatpur on Saturday night. Firefighting teams from Najibabad and several other stations managed to control the blaze.

It took five hours to bring the fire under control. The fire consumed the bagasse and nearby stored iron, resulting in an estimated loss of eight crore rupees according to the sugar mill officials.

The fire at Uttam Sugar Mill Barkatpur started suddenly at around 7 PM on Saturday in the bagasse area. The Najibabad fire brigade team reached the scene after receiving the information. The team was not able to bring the fire under control. Firefighting teams from Nagina and Bijnor also arrived at the scene later on. By around 2 AM, the fire was finally controlled with the help of villagers, employees, and the firefighting teams.

Sugar mill official stated that the fire destroyed the bagasse and iron lying in the mill yard area. The cause of the fire is yet to be found. A high-tension electric line runs near the location where the fire started. The fire resulted in the loss of approximately eight crore rupees worth of bagasse and iron.
