Uttar Pradesh government not taking any action on sugar mills: Bhartiya Kisan Union

Lucknow: The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) launched a scathing attack on Uttar Pradesh government for registering cases against farmers over pending power bills.

BKU State President Naresh Tikait, while addressing the farmers in Alipur Aterna village, on Monday said, “Organisation will not tolerate “atrocities” on farmers. State’s power department officials registered cases for not paying electricity bills while sugar factories have not yet cleared dues of the farmers.”

Allahabad High Court had set October 15 deadline to clear cane dues, but mills in the state failed to abide it. UP Chief Minister CM Yogi Adityanath has served another date of October 31 for mills to clear the cane arrears. Keeping in view the delay in the payment clearing process, the CM has strictly instructed the officials that all the dues of cane growers should be paid by October end.

Tikait said that Uttar Pradesh government is not taking any action on sugar mills for failure in clearing sugarcane dues.
