Uttar Pradesh government seek higher monthly sale quota for sugar mills

Lucknow: Mills in Uttar Pradesh are struggling to clear cane arrears. Therefore, now the state government comes to their rescue. According to the reports, the state government will ask the central government to grant higher monthly sale quota to mills in Uttar Pradesh, so that it will help them to clear dues fastly. Mills in the state owe sugarcane arrears around Rs 4,700.

Suresh Rane, sugarcane development and sugar industries minister said, “Considering the pending arrears and the situation of the mills, we will urge the central government to increase monthly sale quota. Soon, I will be meeting Union food minister Ram Vilas Paswan in this regard.”

Defaulter millers claim that due to fund scarcity, they are unable to clear the cane dues.

Recently, the Allahabad High Court had directed the Uttar Pradesh government to clear the cane dues with 15 per cent interest on it within a month. The court issued the order after hearing a petition filed by farmers from Uttar Pradesh. Issuing warning against the defaulter sugar mills, UP government had set a deadline of October 31 to pay all the arrears of sugarcane farmers.
