Sugarcane crushing season has picked up momentum in Uttar Pradesh as the majority of sugar mills have started operations.
According to data from the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF), as of November 30, 2023, 110 sugar mills in the state had crushed 144.20 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 13.05 lakh tonnes of sugar. Whereas in the previous season, on the same date, 104 sugar mills had crushed 124.71 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 10.60 lakh tonnes of sugar produced
The state is also ahead of last season in terms of sugar recovery. As of November 30, 2023, the sugar recovery rate in the state is 9.05%, compared to 8.50% last season.
The Uttar Pradesh government is working to ensure that sugarcane payments are made on time to farmers this season. Under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, sugar mills have accelerated payments for sugarcane from the previous season.
