Uttar Pradesh: Mills produce around 110 lakh tonnes of sugar so far

Lucknow: As the sugarcane crushing season in Uttar Pradesh is nearing an end, 120 sugar mills in the state have produced around 110 lakh tonne sugar this season which is around 12% less than the previous season’s output of 126 lakh tonnes.

Till date, 110 sugar mills have closed their operations and 10 will close by the end of May or in early June. The mills have produced 109.81 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 1018.82 lakh tonnes of sugarcane. The state is expected to produce 110.5 lakh tonne sugar this season.

According to the news report published in financialexpress.com, till May 24 the sugar mills in UP have paid cane dues of Rs 20,324 crore to the cane farmers and are yet to pay Rs 11,913 crore.

There are 93 private sugar mills in UP and they have cleared 65% of their dues and still owe arrears worth Rs 10,087 crore. 24 cooperative mills operating in the state have paid 38.48% cane dues and owe RS 1629 crore. The three mills belonging to UP Sugar Corporation have paid 49% of their dues and still owe Rs 197 crore.
