Bareilly: Ataur Rahman, the Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator from the Bahedi assembly constituency in Bareilly district, raised concerns about pending sugarcane payments for farmers during a session in the legislature on Friday, reported Amar Ujala.
Rahman questioned the government regarding the outstanding dues at the Kesar Sugar Mill in the Bahedi region.
He stated that while the government claimed a record payment of Rs 33,793 crore for sugarcane prices in the budget from 2017 to 2024, it never disclosed the amount pending payment. Specifically, he pointed out that the Kesar Sugar Mill in his constituency has an outstanding amount of Rs 210 crore. The farmers are distressed, grappling with how to fund their daughters’ weddings and cover their children’s education fees. Despite the government’s announcement of completing farmers’ payments within 14 days, the reality does not align with the promise. Rahman urged the government to move beyond grand promises and address the pending payments.
