Gorakhpur: Gorakhpur is quickly gaining attention from companies as a hub for new business opportunities. At the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) Foundation Day celebration, Manish Agarwal of Bareilly-based Superior Industries, expressed his interest in establishing a sugar mill and ethanol plant in the region. Agarwal met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and held discussions with GIDA officials and the Industrial Development Department about the proposal.
Manish Agarwal, already involved in the distillery business, highlighted the strong potential for a sugar mill and ethanol plant in Purvanchal. Speaking at the event, he said, “Gorakhpur and nearby districts produce significant quantities of sugarcane, maize, and paddy, which are key raw feedstocks for ethanol production.”
Agarwal explained that ethanol production is becoming increasingly important, especially as its use as a fuel alternative continues to rise.
Agarwal shared that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath showed keen interest in the sugar mill and ethanol plant project, inviting him to Lucknow for further discussions. He also noted the positive and supportive attitude of government officials, which boosted confidence in setting up the plant, reported Amar Ujala.
The establishment of a new sugar mill and ethanol plant in the region would be a beneficial for local farmers. Currently, Gorakhpur has only one operational sugar mill in Pipraich, while the other mills in Sardar Nagar and Dhuriapar remain shut. A new plant would not only increase ethanol production but also provide relief to farmers by creating a sustainable market for their crops.
The event, organized by the Invest UP Department, attracted several entrepreneurs who explored the possibilities of investing in Gorakhpur. Agarwal said this was not his first visit to the city, adding that he had previously studied the feasibility of setting up a factory in the region. “The future of ethanol looks promising, and Gorakhpur has the resources to be a key player in this sector,” he concluded.
