New Delhi: Sugarcane crushing season in Uttar Pradesh is in the final phase as a majority of the sugar mills have ended the crushing operations.
The state has witnessed lower sugar output this year compared with the previous season. According to the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Federation, 120 sugar mills participated in cane crushing and till May 10, a total of 90 mills have closed operations and 30 mills are still operating. These mills have produced 107.75 lakh tonnes of sugar. The mills had last year produced 120 lakh tonnes of sugar during the same period.
The mills have crushed 997.69 lakh tonne sugarcane till May 10. During the same period in the last season, mills had crushed 1052.63 lakh tonne sugarcane. The state has also registered a low sugar recovery in this season at 10.80 per cent as compared to 11.40 per cent in the previous season.
