Lakhimpur Kheri: Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait warned of a protest if the government does not announce the sugarcane price soon, reported Live Hindustan.
Tikait was speaking to farmers in Maigalganj, on his way to a farmers’ event in Prayagraj. He said that the government has not yet announced the sugarcane price for the upcoming season and that if the price is not set at a level that covers farmers’ costs, they will be forced to protest.
Tikait said that sugarcane is a major crop in the Terai region and that farmers’ costs have increased significantly in recent years. He said that if the government does not announce a fair price for sugarcane, it will be a betrayal of the farmers.
