Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has received investment proposals of more than Rs 16,000 crore in the ethanol sector, said UP additional chief secretary (sugarcane and excise) Sanjay Bhoosreddy, reports Business Standard.
Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra account for around 60% of the country’s sugarcane and sugar output. UP tops in the ethanol blending ratio in the country as it has a good logistic supply chain and availability of fuel.
According to the proposals, the companies will set up distilleries, breweries, microbrewery, malt and yeast manufacturing plants, etc.
As many as 17 memorandum of understanding (MoUs) have been signed by the state government for setting up ethanol and alcohol-related production units in the state.
Private distilleries have invested around Rs 7,500 crore in the last five years to upgrade ethanol capacity.
The ethanol capacity of the state has been increased to 2 billion liters per annum which is eight times from 240 million liters per annum five years ago.
