Adding another feather to its cap, Shamli district has secured the first position in average sugarcane productivity per hectare in Uttar Pradesh. The average yield of sugarcane in the district stood at 1036.04 quintals per hectare. Officials from the Sugarcane Department expressed their joy on Shamli achieving the top rank, reported Amar Ujala.
There are more than 1.5 lakh sugarcane farmers here who supply sugarcane to Shamli, Unnao and Thana Bhawan sugar mills. Every year, the Sugar Commissioner’s office releases rankings of districts based on average sugarcane productivity across Uttar Pradesh.
According to district sugarcane officer, the results were based on crop cutting experiments conducted by departmental officials. Shamli reclaimed the first position in average yield of sugarcane per hectare, a position it has held continuously for the past six years. The average yield of sugarcane in the district was 1036.04 quintals per hectare, while Muzaffarnagar secured the second position with 953.56 quintals per hectare and Meerut stood third with 919.72 quintals per hectare in the state.
The district sugarcane officer praised all sugarcane farmers in Shamli for their contribution and also acknowledged the crucial role played by employees in securing the top position for the district.
