The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government plans to allocate around Rs 45,000 crore for investments in highways and tertiary roads in the current financial year 2024-25 (FY25), aiming to enhance passenger and cargo movement within the state, reported Business Standard.
These projects cover the construction of bridges and over-bridges across all 75 districts of the state. Out of the total proposed budget of Rs 45,000 crore, the public works department (PWD) will utilize nearly Rs 34,000 crore, which accounts for 75 per cent of the allocation.
The remaining Rs 11,000 crore will be allocated for various projects, including those in villages, tehsils, block headquarters, international/interstate border roads, roads in sugar mill and industrial areas, as well as roads under the ‘Dharmarth’ (religious tourist circuit) project.
In this year’s Budget, the state government had made provisions for these road and highway projects, with an additional allocation of Rs 800 crore for road projects in industrial and logistics park corridors in UP.
