Sugarcane farmers in the district are alleging that even after the conclusion of the crushing season, four sugar mills have failed to settle their dues in full. According to a report by Amar Ujala, these mills, which collectively receive cane from 44,761 farmers, have outstanding payments.
Despite concerted efforts, the sugar mills have been unable to clear the dues owed to the farmers. Out of the district’s eight sugar mills, four still owe a combined total of 184 crores.
Sushil Kumar, the District Cane Officer, stated, “Notices have been issued to the sugar mills that are lagging in payment of the outstanding cane dues. Action will be taken against mills that do not adhere to the given schedule.”
