Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers from three districts trained to increase sugarcane output

Tamkuhi Road, Kushinagar: On Friday, scientists of the Genda Singh Sugarcane Breeding and Research Institute, Seorahi, led a training session for 147 sugarcane farmers from Deoria, Basti, and Gonda districts. The farmers were further equipped with advanced agricultural skills to improve sugarcane cultivation during the training session.

In the training, farmers have been made aware of pest management, the use of modern agriculture equipment, advanced seed varieties, and the correct use of pesticides and balanced fertilizers. Scientists here brought to notice that a reduction in production cost would couple the farmers to enhance their income manifold.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr Subhashchandra Singh, Joint Director of the Institute, who mentioned the importance of the working area of Purvanchal as a major area for sugarcane cultivation, with its crops running on thousands of hectares every year. He urged the farmers to avail maximum benefits by using available government schemes that intended to attract direct benefits.

Field demonstrations constituted a part of the training camp, and visits to the institute’s sugarcane fields and laboratories were organized to demonstrate better management practices to farmers with the help of modern agricultural implements.
