New Delhi: Though sugar output in India has increased this year as compared to the previous season, the sugar production in Uttar Pradesh has declined for an on-going crushing season.
According to the report released by the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), 120 sugar mills from Uttar Pradesh have produced 84.25 lakh tonne sugar till March 15. During last season, as many as 118 sugar mills were operating and they had produced 87.16 lakh tonne sugar till March 15, 2020. Now the 18 mills have stopped operations in the state.
The overall sugar output in the country has reached 258.68 lakh tonne till March 15 as against 216.13 lakh tonne during the same period last year. Total 171 sugar mills in the country have stopped operations and 331 are still operating. Last year 319 sugar mills were engaged in cane crushing operations and 138 mills had stopped operations till March 15.
