To contribute significantly to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s ambitious vision of transforming Uttar Pradesh into a trillion-dollar economy, the state’s Sugarcane Development Department has set a Gross Value Output (GVO) target of Rs 1,41,846 crore for the 2025-26 period.
The department’s action plan for 2025-26 is centered on enhancing sugarcane cultivation and related industries while reducing dependence on government support.
According to officials, the action plan aims to increase the Gross Value Added (GVA) from Rs 1,09,461 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 1,03,038 crore from sugarcane and Rs 38,808 crore from jaggery production by 2025-26.
To achieve this target, the department has laid out several strategies, including raising the average sugar recovery rate from 9.56% to 10.50%, ensuring the timely sale of 91.54 lakh quintals of sugar in 2025-26 to avoid financial losses due to delays, increasing the storage capacity of sugar mills to 4 lakh quintals by improving operations, reducing reliance on state assistance, which currently stands at Rs 1,200 crore, and recruiting skilled workers for sugar mills by outsourcing by May 2025.
Through these efforts, the Sugarcane Development Department aims to play a critical role in Uttar Pradesh’s economic growth, strengthening the state’s position as a key player in India’s agricultural and industrial sectors.
