Narsan, Uttarakhand: Farmers are demanding that the price of sugarcane be raised to over ₹500 per quintal in the upcoming crushing season, reports Live Hindustan. As the current crop is ready for harvest, crushing operations have already started in local jaggery units. Sugar mills are expected to announce the start of their crushing season next month.
Since most farmers in the district grow sugarcane, they are eagerly awaiting the price announcement before the season begins. As the season approaches, both farmers and their organizations are growing increasingly anxious about the sugarcane price. Farmers argue that the current rate is too low, especially since the cost of cultivating sugarcane has been rising rapidly every year.
