Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, announced the State Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane in the ongoing crushing season 2023-24.
In a meeting convened by the state cabinet, it was decided that the SAP for early variety sugarcane would be set at Rs 375 per quintal, while the common variety would be priced at Rs 365 per quintal.
Chief Secretary SS Sandhu, addressing the media in a briefing following the cabinet meeting, disclosed that this marked a Rs 20 per quintal increase from the rates set in the preceding crushing season of 2022-23. The early variety of sugarcane would now fetch Rs 375 per quintal, and the common variety would command a price of Rs 365 per quintal.
This adjustment in sugarcane prices comes in the wake of a similar move by the Uttar Pradesh government, which recently raised the sugarcane prices by Rs 20 per quintal. The Uttarakhand government, sensing the competitive environment, decided to respond by setting higher sugarcane prices than its neighbouring state.
