Dehradun: The state government is likely to announce the state-advised price (SAP) for sugarcane for the upcoming 2023-24 season today.
Few days ago, Uttar Pradesh augmented its cane price across all varieties by Rs 20, establishing the rate for the early variety at Rs 370 per quintal. Despite mounting pressure on the state government to announce price, Bahuguna clarified that the decision would be made during the next cabinet meeting, attributing the delay to a complication encountered in the previous cabinet session.
Bahuguna, nonetheless, emphasized that the government had successfully settled all dues owed to sugarcane farmers. An allocation of Rs 470 crore has been disbursed by the government to address outstanding dues for the 2022-23 season.
Amid growing discontent among farmers over the prolonged non-disclosure of SAP in the past 1-2 months, demands persist for an SAP ranging around Rs 400-450. Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat has echoed these sentiments, urging the declaration of a sugarcane price set at Rs 425 per quintal.
