Roorkee: Sugar mills in the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh have deployed employees to the field to boost sugarcane supply, reported Dainik Jagran.
After a long time, there has been no rush for sugarcane supply to sugar mills at the beginning of the crushing season.
The agricultural department believes that this is good for the expansion of wheat acreage. This time, the Libberheri and Iqbalpur sugar mills have started sugarcane crushing on time.
The sugar mills are continuously increasing the indents, but the mills are not getting as much sugarcane as they are sending. In previous years, more sugarcane would reach the sugar mill than the indents issued by the sugar mills. This is why it would often take farmers eight to ten hours to weigh one trolley of sugarcane, but this is not the case this time.
The crushing capacity of the Libberheri sugar mill is 80,000 quintals, but the mill is currently getting only 60,000 quintals of sugarcane. The situation is the same at the Iqbalpur sugar mill. The sugar mills are also worried due to the lack of sufficient sugarcane supply to the mills. The management is now asking employees to go to farmers to ensure sugarcane supply.
Assistant Cane Commissioner Shailendra Singh said that the supply of sugarcane to the sugar mills has started to increase gradually. The situation will be normal in a week.
