The government has not hiked the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for sugarcane for the ongoing crushing season and the farmers will be paid cane bills as per the rates fixed last year, reports Amar Ujala.
During last season the rate for a normal variety of cane was Rs 345 per quintal and for the late variety, it was Rs 355 per quintal.
Around 729.70 lakh quintals of sugarcane is produced in the region every year.
Based on the committee set up to recommend a hike in MSP, the state cabinet has decided not to hike MSP and to continue with last year’s rates.
