Vallikode: The Vazhamuttom jaggery is set to enter the market again during this Onam season as the jaggery production in the region revived after farmers restarted sugarcane cultivation, reports Onmanorama.
Cane cultivation in the region was stopped by farmers last year. Now the cane is being cultivated in the Mayalil, Vazhamuttom, and Vahzamuttom East regions. Taking steps to promote cane cultivation, the panchayat has decided to grant Rs10,000 per hectare to the farmers.
This year the cane has been grown on 15 acres of land. The farmers have produced four tonnes of jaggery at a private production unit in the region. They are expecting to produce up to six tonnes of jaggery this year.
