Nagpur: Vidharbha, which is known as the cotton and orange belt, has for the first time cultivated sugarcane in large qunatity and exported 25,000 tonnes of sugar, said Union minister Nitin Gadkari, reports The Times of India.
Sugarcane farmers in Nagpur have succeeded in growing 105 to 110 tonnes of sugarcane in one acre, he said while speaking at a workshop on the production of disease-free planting material through PPP mode organized by Central Citrus Research Institute (CCRI) at the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSSLUP) auditorium.
Maharashtra state’s bumper sugarcane crushing season ended in the second week of June with a record sugar production of 137.28 LMT due to high sugarcane availability in the state.
