The Vietnam government has initiated the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation on the sugar imported from Thailand. The action has been initiated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) after the petition raised by the Vietnam Sugarcane and Sugar Association (VSSA) and domestic sugar refineries.
In the first eight months of this year, the sugar imported into Vietnam increased six times compared with last year to 950,000 tons. The maximum sugar is imported from Thailand.
The sudden import of sugar in Vietnam has affected the domestic sugar industry, said the representatives of the domestic sugar industry. The MoIT will investigate the allegations to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the local industry.
