Meerut: In the ongoing sugarcane crushing season, due to a decline in sugarcane production, Sardar V M Singh, convenor of the Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan, has urged for a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal of sugarcane for farmers, reported Live Hindustan.
Singh contends that the increase in production costs and the reduced yield of sugarcane are causing double losses for the farmers. He suggests that the state government should provide relief to farmers by offering a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal.
In an interview with Hindustan, he mentioned that this year, the sugarcane crop is significantly weakened due to the impact of the red rot disease. A noticeable decrease in sugarcane production is observed in most districts of the state, imposing substantial losses on the farmers.
“The sugarcane variety 0238, which is entirely affected by disease, is causing substantial losses to both farmers and the sugar industry,” he further added.
