Pilibhit: Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan president V M Singh has demanded from the government to increase the sugarcane purchase price to Rs 450 per quintal, reports Amar Ujala.
Singh has written a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in this regard. Following his appeal, farmers from across 30 districts and over 100 tehsils raised the demand to hike sugarcane prices and clear pending cane dues on August 16. Farmers had submitted their memorandums addressed to the CM demanding hike in sugarcane price to Rs 450 per quintal and paying interest on pending cane dues.
In a letter addressed to the CM, Sing stated that in 2018, the sugarcane minister told the Vidhan Sabha that the production cost of sugarcane was Rs 294 per quintal. This has increased by 20 to 30% after 2018. If the government considers 2018 as a base price, then the present price should be Rs 450 per quintal, he said.
