Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi affirms commitment to ensuring food security for the people of India

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi officially took charge of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, here today. Former Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal handed over the charge to Joshi in the presence of Ministers of State B.L. Verma and Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya.

Sanjeev Chopra, Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution and Nidhi Khare, Secretary Department of Consumer Affairs along with senior officers of the Ministry were present.

On the occasion of assuming charge, Pralhad Joshi thanked Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for giving him the opportunity. Shri Joshi said “I am grateful that Hon’ble Prime Minister has given me the opportunity to serve in this Ministry that is directly related to serving 80 crore Indians.” Joshi further said PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana is a flagship scheme that provides free food grain through public distribution system. He said his priority will be to implement activities identified by the former Union Minister Shri Goyal in the first 100 days of the government.

He also stated that we are committed to assuring food security to the people of India and will further take steps to strengthen natural farming in the country.
