Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: In this crushing season, sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh have not cleared all cane dues, therefore cane farmers seem upset. The administration is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that mills pay all pending cane dues.
Sugar mills claim that low domestic sugar prices and sugar surplus affected their financial conditions, due to which they are unable to clear cane dues on time. Whereas in a good relief to farmers, the sugar mills in the state have cleared almost all the pending dues from last three years.
As farmers are protesting over pending cane bill, Yogi government also came into action. While addressing the major issue faced by sugarcane farmers in the Shamli district, UP CM Yogi Adityanath said, “We will ensure the payment of sugarcane dues to the farmers.”
In this season, mills in Uttar Pradesh are leading in sugar production. According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), till 29th February 2020, 119 sugar mills were operating in the state and they have produced 76.86 lakh tonnes of sugar compared with 73.87 lakh tonnes produced by 117 mills as on 28th February 2019.
