Yamaha Motor India focuses on ethanol

New Delhi: Yamaha Motor India is being careful while India is focusing on increasing more electric two-wheelers by 2030, reported Live Mint.

Yamaha Motor Co.’s Indian division thinks that about 20% of scooters will be electric by the end of the decade. They’re focusing on cleaner fuels like ethanol.

“We think electric scooters will be about 20% of all scooters in India by 2030,” said Eishin Chihana, the chairman.

Last week, Amitabh Kant, former Niti Aayog chief said all two-wheelers and three-wheelers should be electric by 2030. But Chihana thinks using fuels like ethanol could also help cut pollution.

Yamaha is big in making premium motorcycles and scooters in India. They say people aren’t quickly buying electric scooters even when petrol prices are high.

Yamaha plans to make two electric scooter models by 2030, and they want to sell more of their top-notch motorcycles. They also want to have more stores to sell their stuff in the next six years.

Yamaha’s main plan to cut pollution is by giving motorcycles the option to use flex-fuel (E85), which is mostly ethanol. This is because it’s hard to change everything to electric.

E85 is a mix of up to 85% ethanol and petrol. Some cars and bikes can run on this mix.
