Zimbabwe plans to export sugar to China

Harare: Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe, the top sugar company in Zimbabwe stated that it is planning to export sugar to China in the next three years.

Aiden Mhere, managing director of the company said that the company is interested in exploring trade opportunities in the Chinese market.
“We have received several enquiries and considering exporting sugar to China,” he said.

“Currently we are using around 70-75% capacity of our plants and when it reaches 100% we would be able to export a significant amount of commodity to China,” he said.

In the next three years, the company is expecting to reach full capacity in sugar production, he said.

The company is already exporting sugar to Kenya, the European Union, the United States, Botswana and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The company operates two sugar mills that can produce over 600,000 tonnes of sugar in a year.
