Zimbabwe: Sugar industry expects to meet the growing demand

The Zimbabwe Sugar Association (ZSA) thinks they can make enough sugar for everyone in the country without having to raise prices. They said this in a recent announcement.

They mentioned that the sugarcane milling season starts again soon, which means they’ll have more sugar available. The ZSA is sure they can provide enough sugar now and in the future.

As per the press statement, there’s enough sugar in stock for people in Zimbabwe to buy. They mentioned that some market players might try to increase prices, but there’s still enough sugar available to meet normal demand.

In Zimbabwe, sugarcane is grown and harvested every year round with irrigation. The sugar available now was made from the sugarcane harvested in the last milling season, which ended in December.

Mr. Willard Zireva, the ZSA chairman, explained that because there was good rainfall last agricultural season, the dams that provide water for irrigating sugarcane in the Lowveld area have plenty of water. This means there should be enough water for at least the next two seasons.
